Who Should Attend:

This workshop is funded and tailored specifically for community and technical college faculty members wishing to expand their knowledge, earn an industry certification, and strengthen their ability to incorporate new cybersecurity content in their community college curriculum. This workshop is not intended for students or other non-faculty participants.

About the Workshop: 

The Teaching Operational Technologies Security faculty development workshop prepares educators to design, deliver, and modernize instruction in industrial cybersecurity and operational technology (OT) security. As manufacturing, utilities, transportation, healthcare, and critical infrastructure increasingly integrate information technology (IT) and operational technology environments, educators must understand the unique security requirements associated with industrial control systems, industrial networks, and cyber-physical systems. This intensive professional development experience provides faculty with the knowledge, instructional resources, and hands-on experiences necessary to teach OT security concepts within cybersecurity, networking, engineering, manufacturing, and industrial technology programs. Participants will explore foundational OT architectures, industrial protocols, threat landscapes, safety considerations, and emerging technologies influencing modern industrial environments.

The workshop emphasizes applied learning through AI-enhanced instructional design, interactive simulators, protocol analysis, and analysis of real-world cyber incidents affecting critical infrastructure organizations. Faculty will build AI-generated industrial environments and training scenarios, analyze industrial communications traffic, investigate attacks against industrial control systems, and develop classroom activities that align with workforce needs and industry standards. Participants will leave with a substantial collection of instructional materials, including lecture presentations, laboratory exercises, assessment instruments, virtual simulations, protocol analysis datasets, case studies, curriculum mapping resources, classroom activities, and implementation guides that can be immediately integrated into existing courses or used to develop new OT security offerings.

  • Workshop participants are expected to actively engage in the workshop by participating in the hands-on activities and interactive discussions.
  • Attendees will be required to complete a post-workshop survey. Please watch for a follow-up survey in approximately six months to share how you've applied the workshop content!
